I was working for an Interiors Project of an office having an area of 5000 sq.ft. for iDream. My association with the project led to great learning's. I learnt a lot while having to overcome all the obstacles I faced in the way to execute the project.
In an interior design project in India, one is likely to face problems with builders in the initial stage. That also happened with me in my interior project in Goa. I faced difficulties with the builder during the initial stage. There was labour restriction and the conditions were that there should be only 20 people on the site.
The time provided was not sufficient as working during the night was also restricted during the early days, however which was lifted at the end. There were problems with the government and Royalty which highly affected the tiles and brick walls. In fact the site even came to a halt for sometime. There were variations in the Vitrified tiles and other flooring tiles. The tiles went out of stock and the contractor had to source new tiles and take the approval from the clients and then use it for the flooring of Washrooms.
There were problems of Laminates as the designs chosen by them were horizontal (while the design required a vertical layout) and this caused a lot of inconvenience during the fixation. Even these problems were bought into picture on time and recovered.
During working on a site for a project in Pune also many problems were faced for the material used for construction. As the contractor was from Bangalore , there were problems for the purchase of material and use. Material from this site was used for another site work.
Inferior design projects in Mumbai or Pune also faces similar kind of situations. In any project, the manager is bound to face issues. Support from the team is most important to overcome any crisis. With the support from the team, I could manage to finish the construction and deliver the projects on time.
My secret of success is- "problems with the builder, contractor and other members involved were tackled on time and managed properly."(As told in a video intervew with Meghana Agarwal)
